FREE P90X Workout Lexington SC - Saturday Oct.15, 2011

GET READY for  INSANITY this (Oct. 15) Saturday morning! BRING YOUR JUMP MAT!   Wear good cross training shoes for this work out.  Some of the moves are high impact so do at your own pace and level, just keep moving. Follow me for modified moves, my knees can't take all the jumping either.  Wear a heart rate monitor if you have one.  It is a great tool to check your heart rate level during the workout. 

In INSANITY®, Shaun T uses a method called Max Interval Training. It's not your typical interval workout. You'll do cardio and plyometric drills with intervals of strength, power, resistance, and core training. LEXINGTON FIT CLUB Newsletter Oct. 8, 2011


TRAFFIC UPDATE: DAM TRIATHLON 2011 will be on Lake Murray Dam Saturday Oct. 8. 2011 from 8am -11am.  Access over the dam may be limited for people driving over to  Lexington from Irmo and Chapin.

FREE INSANITY Workout Sept. 24, 2011

We had  a CRAZY INSANITY CARDIO Resistance workout!  This workout really pushed everyone to their limits.  In this 40 minute workout,  I burned 750 calories with no weights and just using your own body weight to do the resistance moves.  It involved a lot more push ups and upper body focus in this workout.  Everyone modified it to their level and pace.  I recommend wearing a heart rate monitor to keep you in check from reaching your maximum.  Good cross training shoes and a jump or plyo mat if you are doing it on hard floors to save your knees is my personal suggestion.

We had a great turnout for the Lexington Fit Club workout to INTERVAL X Plus.  Though INTERVAL X was not part of the original P90X, it was a great workout for the fit club to try to get ready for the INSANITY FREE workout on Sept. 17th.  The group had a great workout and sweat to it.  Everyone survived which is always good.   I showed modifications to certain moves if your knees were bothering you or were just exhausted.  See the video below on the Lexington Fit Club Facebook page.

INSANITY Review - Max Interval Plyo - "Upchuck Shakeology"

I just tried INSANITY Max Interval Plyo for the first time. This workout is part of the 2nd month of the INSANITY program so it is longer and more intense. The first month workouts were about 40-45 minutes long, Max Interval Plyo is for 55 minutes long! That extra 10 minutes really pushes you. There were several moments I had to take a break and do child pose and lie there for a bit to catch my breath. At the final ten minutes, I could not catch my breath and had to breath into a paper bag because I was hyperventilating. I thought I was going to upchuck my Shakeology® I had that morning. I finally caught my breath and finished the workout. It is a great workout but I highly recommend to pace yourself so you won't crash like I did. I burned about 1000 calories from this workout! That is INSANE! Like all Beachbody® workouts, it always pushes you but you know your body best so slow down if you need to. I recommend heart rate monitors just to keep track and know when to ease up.

P90X2 Preview of Workouts - TRY IT FREE*

P90X2 is coming soon in the FALL of 2011. From a radio interview with Tony Horton, some of the changes will be the number days of workouts from 6 to 5 days. There will be no martial arts, Kenpo X. Yoga will be shortened from 1.5 hours to 1 hour. After seeing the preview, looks like you will be using a few more pieces of equipment like balance balls. Some of the moves look like super hybrid workouts combining the core and several muscle groups to be more efficient time wise. I am looking forward to trying the new moves out. FREE P90X Workout in Lexington SC Aug. 20, 2011

We had a great workout to the "MOTHER OF ALL P90X Workouts..PLYOMETRICS" also known as jump training. For P90X grads, they know how tough PLYOMETRICS was the first time doing it. It is a great workout that can burn 500-700 calories in the one hour workout. Lexington Fit Club members tried it for the first time and did a FANTASTIC job keeping up. At the end, everyone was still standing but soaked in sweat. Yes, it was a GREAT workout! Yes, it is awkward at first learning the moves but if you can do this workout you can do ALL of P90X! We also sampled SHAKEOLOGY after the workout shared my personal story how it helped my wife and I lose weight, and gave my 70 year old mother more energy.

We had our first FREE P90X workout with 11 fitness seekers working out to CARDIO X. I was thrilled with the turnout. Everyone had a good time and sweating to the workout. Review Beachbody® Jump Mat & Yoga Blocks



I just did Yoga X today with my new Beachbody® Jump Mat and Yoga Blocks. I did my first round of P90X without them. I substituted a basket ball, a shipping box, and stool at times for the yoga block. They worked but not as stable as a yoga block. I guess I was cheap and did not want to spend any more money until I saw some results. So now on the second round I splurged and bought the blocks and the mat. Before the Jump Mat, I used a towel or those jigsaw puzzle floor pads. The towel always shifted and never stayed in place. The section floor pads were easy on the knees but separated when you did yoga or slipped when doing suicide drills. The Jump Mat is 71"x 26" and 1/4" thick high density foam. It has a slip resistant bottom. I have used it on hardwood and linoleum floors and it stays in place fairly well. I use it for yoga, INSANITY® work outs and with hand weights to help protect the floors. It holds up very well and comfortable if you have to lie on the floor. I love it for the high impact exercises. Being 40 my knees are not as strong as before so the mat does make it is easy on my knees.
If you are on the fence of buying the Jump Mat from Beachbody®, I would recommend them for being sturdy and quality construction. The 1/4" padding is enough to make it comfortable when doing Ab Ripper X® and Yoga X®. The bottom grip is great for not shifting while working out. Overall a good all around mat that would make your workouts more effective.

The Yoga blocks helped a lot in my balance moves in Yoga X®. The blocks are firm foam so you can put weight on them and they won't collapse. The ones I received were blue but they have the purple ones displayed in the Beachbody® Store. I am sure you can always find a substitute to use a block but if you have the means go ahead and get it to help to get that extra stretch.

What to EAT?!?


Getting fit and losing wieght at 40 can be a challenge. Years of bad eating habits are going to be overhauled in 90 days of doing P90X. My biggest concerns was what was I going to eat. During some of the workouts like Plyometrics and Kenpo X, you can expend as much as 600-800 calories. Your body needs the right type of fuel to maintain your energy through these workouts. P90X package provides a nutrition guide for you, with sample menus for the day, and portion guides. The recipes are OK. For more variety, I just started using the EAT SMART on TeamBeachBody.com to help me get some healthy recipes. During P90X, I ate smaller meal portions but throughout the day. I keep our fridge filled with healthy snacks for those quick moments you need some energy. There is more planning involved in shopping and preparing meals since it seems like your always eating. My suggestion is find healthy foods that you will eat and enjoy. Yes, I on occasion have a burger or pizza but I know the next day I will be pushing harder on my next work out.

Work Out at Home - SAVE MONEY!

I work from home and do a lot of driving for real estate. Time and gas prices were the biggest factors for me deciding on using P90X as my fitness program. I have three small children so I get to spend a lot of time working at home which has saved us a lot money on childcare. With gas prices fluctuating so much, a commute to the gym and hauling the kids back and forth was not a good scenario for me. I get to work out at home in my garage gym while the kids are doing their thing, playing the Wii, or something else inside the home. If they need Daddy, I am just an earshot away. Working out at home allows me to be flexible with my workout schedule and just focus on my workout. I don't have to deal with waiting for the equipment or the crowds at the gym. For my personal situation working out at home with a well planned program like P90X best suited my needs.

Find Your Own Workout!

I was just checking out the home page for BEACHBODY.com and I always like seeing the success stories people had with the fitness videos from BEACHBODY. Here is a great success story from a Mom w/ two kids. My pastor always said look for a church that speaks to you and help you with your walk. I would apply it to finding a fitness program for you. Find something that interests and excites you to exercise. BEACHBODY has so much variety, there is at least one that will motivate you to get fit for life.

Drop that PINA COLADA!

My favorite Super Health Shake, Shakeologoy, is coming out with a new flavor, Tropical. It has pineapple, banana, and yogurt along with all the other super ingredients. Sounds like my flavor for the hot summer days of South Carolina. Don't know how healthy it would be if you added some rum but I am sure it would still taste good.

Grocery Shopping for P90X

Prior to starting P90X, I pulled out all the food from my pantry and sorted them by what I am allowed to eat based on the P90X Nutritional Plan Guide. I organized the pantry with a shelf for my own food. If you have a family with little kids, you still need their food but keep them away from your zone (away from temptation). I went to the grocery and scouted for the foods I could eat and just to see what was available. Before I was more of an impulse grocery shopper, I would buy groceries based on how hungry I was at the time. Being hungry is NOT a good thing to be while food shopping, so have a healthy snack before you go so you won't have a melt down when you see a bag of Cheetos. No point buying something you won't eat just because it's healthy but do broaden your palate if possible. I did notice that the healthier the food was, it also cost more. It was an eye opening experience. I started to read more food labels and comparison shopping. For those 90 days, I can say my grocery shopping habits have changed for the better.

I shopped around for a supplement shake but could not find anything locally. Some tasted gritty, or made you feel bloated or gassy, or was just a filler with no nutritional value in it. My wife also could not digest artificial sugars that well so that eliminated a lot of the shakes. I looked into BEACHBODY's SHAKEOLOGY shake and was impressed with the amount of research and natural ingredients was put into it. P90X was tough enough and I still had to modify some Yoga moves because they are just tough. The preview to P90X MC2 looks exciting and scary at the same time. After doing P90X, you look forward to the different moves and challenges. It definitely adds variety. Pre-order will be starting in August. I know a lot of BEACHBODY die hards will reserving a copy. Who is Beachbody?

When I purchased P90x, I did not know who Beachbody was? They produced Hip Hop Abs, ChaLEAN Extreme, TurboFire, Insanity, and more. I was surprised to see the selection of Fitness Videos they provided and real weight loss results from real people. What I liked was they provided the complete package of exercise, nutrition, and support. Beachbody has a great website where you can track your weight loss and physical improvement online, great health recipes, and be able to chat with others going through the same fitness program with you. I always get inspired by the Weight Loss Transformation videos. My change was not as big as theirs but seeing the commitment and determination of others helped motivate me for those 90 days.
